Four simple steps to complete home control

Step 1 | Set up your thermostat

Once the Total Connect Comfort compatible thermostat is installed and tailored to your schedule and lifestyle , follow the steps in the instruction manual to connect it to your home's wireless network.

Step 2 | Register Online

Once your HVAC system is up and running, click on the ‘Create Account’ button of this page and start by registering online.

Step 3 | Create Locations

Once your account is created and activated, you can log in to your account and create a location to which you will be asked to register a device using the MAC and CRC codes provided with your thermostat.

Total Comfort Connect supports multiple locations. A second home or holiday retreat can easily be controlled from the same account.

What is My Total Connect Comfort?

Total Connect Comfort is a internet-based service that allows you to view and control your home environment from anywhere in the world where you can connect to the internet using your mobile device (cellular data network or Wifi).

What internet browsers are supported by Total Connect Comfort?

Total Connect Comfort is optimized to work with all mainstream web browsers:

  • Internet Explorer 10 or above
  • Google Chrome 30 or above
  • Firefox 25 or above
  • Safari 6 or above

To ensure the service works flawlessly, it is advised to keep your browser up to date at all time.

What mobile devices currently support the Total Connect Comfort app?

Due to the fast release cycles of mobile operating systems, our approach consists of supporting up to 2 versions of iOS and up to 3 versions of Android. We do not exclude older versions but cannot guarantee full compatibility.

As of November 1st 2014, we support the majority of mobile devices running either of the following operating systems:

  • iOS 7.0 or above
  • Android 4.1 or above

I would like to use several mobile devices to access Total Connect Comfort and control my thermostat remotely (tablet or smart phone). Do I need to register each device?

There is no need to register any of your mobile devices. Total Connect Comfort works with as many devices as you need and across both Android and iOS operating systems.

What are Cookies and what are they used for?

Cookies are small text files stored on a computer by websites that contain user profile information and preferences and are required by Total Connect Comfort to function properly. To enable cookies, follow the steps for your web browser below:

Internet Explorer:

  1. On the browser menu, click on 'Tools' and select 'Internet Options'
  2. Select the 'Privacy' tab
  3. In the 'Settings' section, use the slider to set your cookie preferences. The maximum level you shall select to ensure Total Connect Comfort works properly is 'Medium-High'.
  4. Click on the 'OK' button to close the 'Internet Option' window

Chrome:

  1. On the web browser menu, click on the 'Menu' icon and select 'Settings'
  2. In the 'Settings' section click on the 'Show advanced settings...'
  3. In the 'Privacy' sub-section click on the 'Content settings...' button
  4. When the dialog window opens, look for the 'Cookies' section and select 'Allow local data to be set (recommended)'
  5. Click on the 'Done' button to close the window
  6. Close the 'Settings' tab

Firefox:

  1. On the web browser menu, click on 'Tools' and select 'Options'
  2. Select the 'Privacy' tab
  3. In the History section, click on the button next to 'Firefox will' and select 'Remember history'

What is Javascript and how do I enable it in my internet browser?

JavaScript is a programming language used to enhance website performance and functionality and is required by Total Connect Comfort to function properly. To enable JavaScript, follow the steps for your web browser below:

Internet Explorer:

  1. On the web browser menu, click on 'Tools' and select 'Internet Options'
  2. Select the 'Security' tab
  3. Click on the 'Internet' icon and then on the 'Custom level...' button
  4. On the 'Security Settings - Internet Zone' dialog window, look for the 'Scripting' section
  5. Enable the 'Active Scripting' sub-section
  6. When asked 'Are you sure you want to change the settings for this zone?', select 'Yes'
  7. Click on the 'OK' button to close the 'Internet Option' window
  8. Click on the 'Refresh' button of the web browser to refresh the page

Chrome:

  1. On the web browser menu, click on the 'Menu' icon and select 'Settings'
  2. In the 'Settings' section click on the 'Show advanced settings...'
  3. In the 'Privacy' sub-section click on the 'Content settings...' button
  4. When the dialog window opens, look for the 'JavaScript' section and select 'Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended)'
  5. Click on the 'Done' button to close the window

  1. In the web browser address bar, type 'about:config' (without quotation marks) and hit the 'Enter' key

  3. In the search bar, search for 'javascript.enabled' (without quotation marks)
  4. If the value is set to 'false', double-click the result named 'javascript.enabled'. The value will turn to 'true'
  5. Close the 'about:config' tab
  6. Click on the 'Reload Current Page' button of the web browser to refresh the page

Safari:

  1. On the web browser menu, click on the 'Safari' button and select 'Preferences'
  2. Select the 'Security' tab.
  3. In the section 'Web content' check the 'Enable JavaScript' box
  4. Close the 'Preferences' window
  5. Click on the 'Reload Current Page' button of the web browser to refresh the page

What thermostats is Total Connect Comfort compatible with?

The Total Connect Comfort service currently works with the following thermostat models as shown in the dedicated section of this page:

  • Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat (RTH9320WF)
  • Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Touchscreen Thermostat (RTH8320WF)
  • Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat (RTH6320WF)


Our system has been thoroughly tested with these thermostats. As such, we do not exlude nor guarantee compatibility with other similar models that can be found in the market place. To make sure you have a fully working system, please check with your local supplier the model number of the thermostat prior to purchase.

Can I use another brand of thermostat to connect with Total Connect Comfort?

No. Total Connect Comfort is only compatible with Honeywell devices that have been specifically designed to ensure the system works flawlessly.

How do I create a Total Connect Comfort account?

To create a new account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.mytotalconnectcomfort.com and select your country
  2. On the Total Connect Comfort login page, select 'Create An Account'
  3. Fill out the Account Registration form
  4. Read and Accept the End User License Agreement
  5. Submit your form by selecting 'Create Account'
  6. An email will be sent to you with a link to activate your account and complete the registration process

I never received my email activation email. What shall I do?

Check the spam folder in your email inbox. If you are still unable to find the activation email please contact Customer Care.

I have forgotten my password. What shall I do?

To reset your password, follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.mytotalconnectcomfort.com and select your country
  2. On the Total Connect Comfort login page, click 'Forgot Password?'
  3. Enter your account username (email address) and select 'Submit'
  4. A password reset link will be sent to you by email
  5. Click on the link and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the password reset process

How do I delete a Total Connect Comfort account?

To delete your account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.mytotalconnectcomfort.com and select your country
  2. Log in to your account
  3. On the Total Connect Comfort menu, select 'Account'
  4. Click 'Delete Account' at the bottom right of the page
  5. Confirm your decision by entering your password and select 'Submit'
  6. An email will be sent to you confirming that your account was successfully deleted

How do I add a new location to my account?

To add a new location, follow these steps:

  1. On the Total Connect Comfort menu, select 'Locations'
  2. On the 'Locations' page, select 'Add Location'
  3. Complete the location registration form
  4. Submit your request by selecting 'Create Location'

How many internet connected devices am I able to have under one location?

Currently you are only allowed to have one internet connected device registered to your location.

How do I allow someone else to receive alerts for thermostats connected to a location?

When you create a location, you can add up to 6 contact email addresses that will be notified with any type of alerts you would decide to activate from the mobile application. Would you wish to update this list of contacts, you can always log in to the web portal, navigate to your location and edit the location's details including notifications contact.

Can I have more than one location registered under my account?

Yes. You can have as many locations as you need registered to your Total Connect Comfort account.

How do I grant another user access to one of my locations?

To grant access to another Total Connect Comfort user, follow these steps:

  1. On the Total Connect Comfort menu, select 'Account'
  2. In the 'Location Permissions' section of the page, click on the 'Grant User Access' button
  3. Complete the form and select the location(s) to which you'd like to grant access
  4. Complete the request by selecting 'Submit'
  5. Verify that the user to whom you have just granted access is listed down in the 'Location Permissions' section of the page

What can a Granted User do with my location permissions?

If you decide to grant access to another user you allow that user to remotely view and control your location with the same level of functionality as you have. However, as the owner of the location, you are the sole administrator of that location. No other user will be able to remove a device, add / remove user access, edit the location's information or delete the location.

How do I remove access of one of my granted users?

To remove access of another Total Connect Comfort user, follow these steps:

  1. On the Total Connect Comfort menu, select 'Account'
  2. In the 'Location Permissions' section of the page, locate the user whose access you would like to remove
  3. Click on the 'Trash' icon next to the user's name
  4. Confirm your decision when prompted to do so

How do I delete a location from my account?

To delete a location, follow these steps:

  1. On the Total Connect Comfort menu, select 'Locations'
  2. Select the location you would like to delete from your account
  3. Click 'Delete Location' at the bottom right of the page
  4. Confirm your decision when prompted to do so

What credentials do I use to log in to my Total Connect Comfort mobile application?

To log in to your account on the Total Connect Comfort app enter the same credentials (email address and password) you use to connect to the web portal.

How does the Total Connect Comfort app work in combination with the heating system installed in my home?

The Total Connect Comfort app works in parallel to your heating system. Any changes you trigger from the mobile app will be communicated to your heating system and implemented within a fairly reasonable time. Similarly, if you make an adjustment to the heating system from a thermostat in the home the app will be updated to reflect that change.

When I log in to the Total Connect Comfort app I keep getting a 'no locations found' error message. What shall I do?

This message is displayed because you have not created any location or no one has shared a location with you yet. To create a new location go to www.mytotalconnectcomfort.com.

When I start the Total Connect Comfort app I keep getting a 'no connection' error message. What shall I do?

This message is displayed because your mobile device cannot connect to the internet. Check your mobile device's connectivity settings and try again.

I have created a location but don't see it listed down in the menu of my Total Connect Comfort app. What shall I do?

Open the side menu where your locations are listed and pull down on the list of locations until a refresh is triggered. Any location you have added (or removed) will appear (or disappear) upon the task completing.

When I chose a location in the Total Connect Comfort app I keep getting a 'no device found' error message. What shall I do?

To verify that your system is properly setup, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to www.mytotalconnectcomfort.com, log in to your account and ensure that you have a device registered to the location your attempting to remotely access.
  2. If you use a gateway, ensure that you have a thermostat properly bound to it  (see the relevant section of this FAQ for more information how to bind a thermostat to the gateway)
  3. Upon completing the first 2 steps, navigate to the side menu of the app and pull down on the list of locations to trigger a refresh.

What tools or materials are necessary for the installation of my new thermostat?

In most cases, the only tools and materials required are a small flat edge screwdriver, #2 phillips screwdriver, your thermostat ID card (located in the box), and your home Wi-Fi Network password.

I am not sure whether my new thermostat is wired correctly. What shall I do?

Honeywell offers several resources to assist in the wiring of your new thermostat. These resources include: installation videos, a User Guide and a Quick Start Guide all of which can be found here.

Note that these resources have been specifically designed for the North American market. Some elements related to the online registration may not reflected the enhanced user experience we have specifically developed for other regions.

My thermostat will not connect to my home Wi-Fi network when I supply the correct password. The thermostat shows "Connection Unsuccessful." What shall I do?

Make sure that you have selected the right security standard.

Honeywell’s Wi-Fi Thermostats are compatible with the following Wi-Fi security standards:

  • OPEN
  • WEP PSK
  • WPA TKIP PSK
  • WPA2 AES PSK
  • WPA2 MIXED PSK
  • WPA AES PSK
  • WPA2 TKIP PSK

Please change your router settings to use one of the supported security settings above. If unsure how to do this, please contact the router manufacturer.

How do I register the thermostat via the Internet?

To register the thermostat to your account, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to www.mytotalconnectcomfort.com and select the country where you have registered your account
  2. Log in to your account
  3. Create a new location (proceed to step 4 if already done)
  4. Click on the '+ Add device' button
  5. Enter the devices' MAC ID and MAC CRC codes and press on 'Submit'

Where is the MAC ID and MAC CRC located?

The MAC ID and MAC CRC is the alphanumeric code displayed on the thermostat display in the Wi-Fi Setup menu. It is also located on the thermostat registration card and on the back of the thermostat . Each thermostat has a unique MAC ID and MAC CRC so that it is unique to your application.

My thermostat is unable to register to the Total Connect Comfort website. What shall I do?

Verify that the thermostat is correctly enrolled on your home Wi-Fi network. The thermostat will display "REGISTER ONLINE FOR REMOTE ACCESS" on the Home screen. Verify that the Wi-Fi router has a good internet connection. On your computer, verify that you can open the site at mytotalconnectcomfort.com. If you cannot open the site, switch off the internet modem for a few seconds, then power it back on.

The outdoor conditions on my thermostat keeps showing a "waiting for update..." message. What is wrong?

Honeywell is in the process of updating its agreement with the weather data provider to extend the geographical scope of the service. As soon as your region becomes supported, your thermostat will be automatically upgraded and will display your local weather conditions.

What tools or materials are necessary for the installation of my new thermostat?

In most cases, the only tools and materials required are a small flat edge screwdriver, #2 phillips screwdriver, your thermostat ID card (located in the box), and your home Wi-Fi Network password.

Past that period of time, power down the thermostat by removing the thermostat from the wall plate and then snapping the thermostat back onto the wallplate in after 4-5 seconds. With your device (laptop or smartphone) you will be able to reconnect to the "New Thermostat" network and open the Thermostat Wi-Fi Setup page again.

If the wireless network is setup to be a non-broadcasting SSID, the user can enter in the network name at the bottom of the page. Enter the network name in the "Add new network" text box, specify the encryption type and click ADD. The new network will appear at the top of the list. Select it, enter a password (if necessary) and select ‘Join’.

Why does my thermostat show error code E02?

The thermostat will display error code E02 if the password to the home router was entered incorrectly. The thermostat will automatically progress to the Wi-Fi Set Up screen after 30 seconds.

Why does my thermostat show error code E42?

The thermostat will display error code E42 if the home router did not supply an IP address for wireless connection. Verify the home router is enabled for DHCP or power cycle the router and repeat the set up process.

While connecting to Wi-Fi, my thermostat is stuck on the screen that shows "Connection Successful" and "Wait." What shall I do?

Please try the following steps to get past the this screen:

  1. Power down the thermostat for 3-5 minutes by removing it from the wall plate or turning power off at the circuit breaker. Then turn the thermostat back on and verify that the "set time" screen is shown. If the "set time" screen is not shown repeat this process for longer period of time.
  2. After repowering, press the "fan" and the "up" arrow at the same time for five seconds. Press "Next" until ISU "39" is displayed, set it to option "0" with the arrow buttons, and press "Done." This will cause the Wi-Fi radio to reset.
  3. Please restart the Wi-Fi enrollment steps from the beginning.

How do I find the password to my router?

Check the back or bottom of the router or the operating manual for the password. If you are still unable to find the password contact the router manufacturer.

I cannot connect to my guest network. What do I need to do?

Some wireless routers have advanced features like guest networks. It is recommended that you connect your thermostat to your home network. If you must connect to your guest network, then you will need to contact the router manufacture to assist in unblocking port 443 in the guest network firewall.

Why isn’t my thermostat connecting to my Wi-Fi router even though it is very close to the thermostat?

Verify that the password entered for the Wi-Fi router is correct.

Is there a way to extend the signal strength?

Most standard routers can be set up to be a repeater. You can also purchase and install a Wi-Fi repeater.

What is the range or distance of the Wi-Fi signal in my thermostat?

The thermostat works in typical residential and light commercial applications.  The range or distance of the Wi-Fi signal is determined by your router.
